The first place they earned at the Beach Pro Tour Challenge event in Espinho, propelled Michal Bryl and Bartosz Losiak back to the top 10 in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking. The Polish pair claimed their third Tour gold on Sunday in Portugal and returned to position eight in the chart, which they had last occupied before June’s Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome.

Bryl & Losiak celebrate in Espinho
Bryl and Losiak’s Espinho gold came with 800 points towards the ranking. Their total improved to 5,020, enough to leap six spots up the chart from their previous 14th. The Poles stand 60 points clear of the previous week’s Gstaad Elite16 winners Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt of Chile, who shifted a spot down to ninth.
Espinho silver medallists Moritz Pristauz and Martin Ermacora of Austria added 760 points to their tally and rose from 19th to 16th in the World Ranking, 90 points above Latvia’s Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins, who took 720 points for their bronze medals in Portugal, but simultaneously lost the 300 they had earned at the 2021 CEV European Championship, to shift just one position up, from 18th to 17th.
Piotr Kantor and Maciej Rudol, who finished fourth in Espinho, took 680 points to leap nine places up and join the top 25, in position 24. All Espinho quarterfinalists also moved up the ranking, with Ukraine’s Sergiy Popov and Eduard Reznik making the highest jump of 15 places up to number 44. Dutch pair Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde climbed from 17th to 12th, Switzerland’s Marco Krattiger and Florian Breer ascended from 30th to 22nd, and Italy’s Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi rose from 32nd to 23rd.
Last week’s top seven in the men’s ranking remained the same after this week’s update.
All top eight teams of the women’s final standings in Espinho also improved their positions in the World Ranking. Gold medallists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar of Australia, for the first time this season, are now the world’s number four, up from number five on a new total of 5,560 points, or 100 points clear of the previous number four, Rome 2022 bronze medallists Cinja Tillmann and Svenja Muller of Germany.
The other German team in the top 10, Karla Borger and Julia Sude also gave up their number six spot, to Brazil’s Taiana Lima and Hegeile Almeida, whose fifth-place finish in Portugal was enough for аn upward shift of one position.
Espinho runners-up Corinne Quiggle and Sarah Schermerhorn of USA moved up eight places to 22nd, while bronze medallists Andressa Cavalcanti and Vitoria Rodrigues of Brazil climbed two positions to 12th. Spain’s Paula Soria and Sofia Gonzalez, who claimed their first top-four finish at the Challenge level, rocketed 21 spots to number 44.
Americans Emily Day and Savannah Simo, who made their Beach Pro Tour debut as a pair and reached the quarterfinals in Espinho, earned their first 600 points for the World Ranking and stormed the chart straight into position 127.
Germany’s Sandra Ittlinger and Isabel Schneider and France’s Lezana Placette and Alexia Richard also made last week’s quarterfinals in Portugal and gained in the ranking, from 25th to 19th and from 35th to 31st, respectively.
